Thank you for expressing interest in SUNY Cortland’s Greek Life. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about our specific organization, The Delta Chi Fraternity. Delta Chi Cortland was founded in the spring of 2005 by a group of 21 men, mostly freshman who were interested in Greek Life, but could not find a group that they identified with. Through the help of the members of Delta Chi’s International staff we were able to land a colony at Cortland.

Two years later in the spring of 2007 we were granted Chapter status. It was not easy to reach this level, as we had to show our efficiency in a number of common Greek aspects; including community service, philanthropy, athletics, social, academics and fundraising. Our current status as a Chapter is the strongest it has ever been. Many of the original Founding Fathers have graduated and over 60 undergraduate men have joined the fraternity in our short life-span. We have won a number of individual and chapter awards, including the Regional Chapter of the Year award over all of the other Delta Chi’s in the Northeast. We were even asked to host Delta Chi’s Regional Leadership Conference in the spring of 2008.

There are many benefits of joining a fraternity. The Delta Chi Fraternity of Cortland can not be easily defined. It is a Fraternity filled with individuals that strive towards personal growth and brotherhood. Brotherhood comes from working side-by-side with other members in a common goal of furthering both the fraternity and their own individual collegiate experience. Also the social aspects are a great advantage. We hold weekly social events with all of the schools sorority’s, dance teams, and most of the sport teams. Being in a fraternity is also a way to network with other members of campus and figures of the local community as well as the schools administration. We hold weekly chapter meetings that prepare our undergraduates for the real world. Also, we have an elected Executive Board (President, Vice-President, etc.) and the majority of active members hold committee head positions (fundraising, social, scholarship, etc.). We keep in close contact with our alumni and have already even used the networking to land jobs for our most recent graduates. When you join Delta Chi, it’s not just for four years of college, it is for a lifetime, and the relationships last forever.

Delta Chi's Fall Rush period will officially begin in the second week of the fall semester in August or September. We will have rush events for about two weeks and then interview potential brothers and then extend bids. The pledging process will begin shortly after the interviews and formal bid extended with Cortland's Greek Advisor. A Fall 2008 rush schedule will be here before you know it...

Feel free to email if you are interested in becoming a member of the SUNY Cortland Delta Chi Fraternity or if you have any questions that you would like to be answered. We are always willing to help.
