Cortland Delta Chi goes 2 for 2 |
For the second year in a row, the Delta Chi Cortland chapter received the fraternity’s second highest award, the Award of Excellence. The award is given to a maximum of six chapters in any of the fraternity’s nine regions, and has twice been given to the Cortland chapter, in 2007 and 2008. This is a reflection of the chapters many attributes, with above average grades and membership, as the chapter had its second largest pledge class last spring, with thirteen new members. Also adding to the chapter success is an outstanding and very active Alumni Board of Trustees, a solid alumni newsletter as well as actively being involved on campus and throughout the Cortland community. The chapter prides itself on being hardworking, dedicated men who give yearly to their philanthropy, the Jim Valvano or Jimmy V Cancer research foundation, as well as taking part in SUNY Cortland annual march against rape, Take Back the Night. All these things, on top of a great group of men, have allowed the chapter to receive the coveted Award of Excellence for a second time. -Matt Vozga, Public Relations, Cortland Delta Chi |

Cortland Delta Chi Gives Back |
The Cortland chapter of the Delta Chi fraternity has a positive reputation around the Cortland community for many reasons, one being community service. The chapter devotes itself to helping the community and mandates each member to roughly ten hours of community service each semester. With the 29 active brothers this semester, that will come to about 290 hours of giving back this semester. Two main events the chapter participates in yearly are the Take Back the Night march and Pumpkinfest. SUNY Cortland’s annual march against rape shows how the chapter differs from the normal “frat boy” mentality. The march, which is roughly a half hour walk around campus and down Main and Tompkins street is attended by upwards of 90% of the chapter, as well as the current Associate Members. Cortland’s Pumpkinfest, the towns fall celebration, is a great volunteer experience for the chapter trough the JM McDonald center, a group which the fraternity frequently helps out. The brothers were supervisors of the bounce houses, making sure the kids stayed safe and also rode on the Hay-rides, keeping everyone safe. Lately, the chapter has walked the Cortland version of the Crop Walk and will be doing a safe Halloween this weekend. -Matt Vozga, Publc Relations, Cortland Delta Chi |

SGA Elections: Cortland Delta Chi Brothers Win Student Government Election |
The results in the Cortland’s recent Student Government Association election are out and two Delta Chi brothers came out winners. Out of 955 votes cast Jesse Campanaro, a sophomore health science major from Monticello, NY, received 565 of them winning the President of SGA. A Delta Chi brother since spring 2008 Campanaro has big plans for the organization, “More involvement from students will make Cortland a much more enjoyable place to be.” His running mate Aaron Batchelder also won his ballot. The junior health sciences major from Rouses Point, NY also received 565 votes. Batchelder a brother since spring 2008 is very excited to take his new position in the organization, “I have a lot of ideas on how to better this campus and bring the students together.” The two brothers who are in the same major and pledged in the spring of 2008 together bring so much to the table. Each have been involved several aspects of student life on campus, and are a great representation for students at SUNY Cortland. Campanaro will serve as the Recruitment and Scholarship Chair next semester and Batchelder will be Social Chair for the fraternity. Both will be living in the fraternity’s chapter house. Cortland’s Chapter BB Adam Fetterly had the following to say about the two “…this comes from the hard work that they have done to campaign and get their names out there. Holding these kinds of positions within the whole school is a great deal for all of us. I know they will do well and wish them the best of luck.” |
